Dr. Volker Prott
Dr. Volker Prott is lecturer in modern history at Aston University in Birmingham, UK. Before joining Aston in 2018, he was lecturer in modern European history at the University of Melbourne (2015–2017) and post-doctoral research and teaching fellow at Tübingen University (2013–2015). Prott obtained his PhD from the European University Institute in Florence in 2013. His fields of research include the history of nationalism, ethnic violence, borders, humanitarian politics, and the use of social theories in history.
His first monograph, The Politics of Self-Determination: Remaking Territories and National Identities in Europe, 1917–1923 was published by Oxford University Press in 2016. He is currently working on a project entitled Foreign Interventions in the Cold War, comparing the Congo Crisis of the early 1960s and the Indo-Pakistani conflict in 1947–50 and again in 1971.
