Dr. Yarong Chen

Dr. Yarong Chen has a MA degree in art history from Peking University and she gained her doctoral degree from the Department of Politics and Society at Aalborg University in October 2020. Her Ph.D. project looks into the historical relations between UNESCO and China in the period 1945-1950. She has conducted archival research at several institutes, including Wu Zuoren International Foundation of Fine Arts (WIFA), Beijing; the UNESCO Archives, Paris; Needham Research Institute, Cambridge; and the Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, Taipei, etc.


She is currently working on UNESCO and Cross-Taiwan Straits relations during the Cold War period. She is publishing on the educational, scientific, and cultural cooperation between UNESCO and China. Her fields of research include the impact of international organization (IO); the foreign relations of wartime/post-war China in education, science and culture; the politics of sensibility/visuality in history and present.
